Jones and Paul Goldman Join Together to Demand City Council and the Mayor Do Right For Seniors
Delegate Dwight Jones (D-Richmond) released the following statement today further denouncing Mayor Wilder’s resistance to providing Richmond’s retirees with a cost-of-living adjustment and encouraging City Council to stand up for seniors:
“Over the past several years the leadership in Richmond city government has not stood up for seniors and City Hall and City Council need to be held accountable for their actions.”
“While Mayor Wilder and City Council still negotiate whether or not Richmond’s retirees will be receiving a cost-of-living adjustment, seniors in Richmond continue to struggle with higher gas costs, higher food costs and higher cost for utilities. Seniors need our help, and City Hall and City Council need to stand up for Richmond’s seniors.”
“On July 7 I came out criticizing this administration for cutting the increase for Richmond’s retirees from his budget. Mayor Wilder’s continued insistence that his budget – which keeps unacceptably high amounts of waste in administrative costs in the Mayor’s office – continues to show Mayor Wilder’s unwillingness to put the greater good of the city above all else.”
“Seniors in Richmond, like these retirees, are struggling, and Paul Goldman and I are here today to strongly urge City Hall and City Council to put aside their differences to do what’s right for Richmond’s seniors.”
