PROVIDE A SAFETY-NET THAT PROTECTS THE LEAST AMONG US

To Build a Better Richmond it is imperative that we be as inclusive as possible in our neighborhood plans and initiatives.

Our city has witnessed phenomenal growth and success, but there have been members of our population excluded from this resurgence.  As mayor, I will launch a top to bottom review of what our city government is doing to assist the less fortunate, particularly the working poor.  Working together with non-profits in the region and with our institutions of higher education, we can create programs that will protect their homes, their neighborhoods, and most important their livelihood.

Our city and region is in the midst of enormous demographic changes. We are no longer a black-white city and region. Hispanic Americans now account for 6 percent of Virginia’s population and Asian Americans making up almost the same percentage. We will work together with these and other emerging populations in the City and in the region to ensure that the full diversity of Richmonders are an integral consideration in  our plans, our growth, and our future.
