Last night Delegate Dwight Jones was overwhelmingly endorsed for Mayor by the Richmond City Democratic Committee.

The Committee elected Jones by a wide margin, with 64 percent selecting him to join Senator Barack Obama, Governor Mark Warner and Congressman Bobby Scott as the 2008 Democratic ticket.

“I am honored to join Barack Obama, Mark Warner and Bobby Scott on the Democratic ticket.  I look forward to working with them to bring change to our nation, our Commonwealth and our city,” Jones said after the endorsement was made official.  

“I was the second elected official to endorse Senator Barack Obama for President.  As a Democrat in the House of Delegates for 14 years, I had the opportunity to work with Governor Warner to pass his landmark tax reform legislation which lowered the food tax, increased the state’s personal exemption, and solidified state payments to nursing homes to reform our budget.  And earlier this week I was honored to receive the endorsement of Congressman Bobby Scott.”

“Together, we are going to turn Virginia blue.  With Barack Obama in the White House, Mark Warner in the Senate, Bobby Scott in Congress and Dwight Jones in the Mayor’s office, Virginia and Richmond will truly have the change and partnerships needed to move our Commonwealth and city forward.”

In the past week, Delegate Jones has received the endorsement of Congressman Bobby Scott, former Mayoral candidate Paul Goldman and the Richmond City Democratic Committee, three of the most important endorsements in Richmond’s mayor’s race.
